Dr. David Wallom is a Researcher and Associate Director – Innovation at the Oxford e-Research Centre (University of Oxford). He leads initiatives in Energy and ICT, Cloud Computing, and Volunteer Computing, with over 20 research projects in areas such as Smart Energy Grids, Green IT, and ICT security. As Technical Director of the UK National e-Infrastructure (NGS), he oversees federated cloud computing services, project R&D, and institutional collaborations. His work integrates climate science, energy systems, and digital infrastructure to address global challenges like decarbonization and climate resilience.
- Education: PhD and BSc (Hons)
Research interests focus on cloud computing utilization, renewable energy integration, climate modeling, and security in ICT systems. He explores the intersection of technology and climate change, including offshore wind energy planning, extreme weather resilience, and energy storage optimization. His contributions span both theoretical frameworks (e.g., demand response analytics) and practical applications (e.g., digital twin technology for building performance).
Publications highlight advancements in energy system optimization, climate change impact assessments, and cybersecurity in cloud environments. His work emphasizes bridging technical innovation with sustainability goals, particularly in smart grids and localized energy markets.
Notable contributions include leadership in the Square Kilometer Array project’s ICT infrastructure and development of frameworks like TrustedCloud for cloud security. He advocates for holistic approaches to energy transitions, combining computational modeling with real-world implementation.
