Dr. David W. Pascual is a Professor at the University of Wyoming's Department of Veterinary Sciences and holds the Wyoming Excellence Chair in Brucellosis. His research focuses on developing mucosal vaccines against zoonotic pathogens and immunotherapeutics for autoimmune diseases.
Education:
- B.S. in Microbiology, University of Florida (1980)
- M.S. in Microbiology, University of Mississippi Medical Center (1985)
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, University of Mississippi Medical Center (1987)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Alabama at Birmingham (1987-1990)
Dr. Pascual's work centers on Brucella species' pathogenesis and mucosal vaccine strategies, leveraging Salmonella and Lactococcus vectors to elicit protective immunity. His team discovered that CFA/I fimbriae from ETEC induce anti-inflammatory Th2 responses and disease-specific regulatory T cells (CD25+ for Sjögren’s syndrome, CD39+ for arthritis) to combat autoimmune conditions like multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes.
Scientific Awards & Memberships:

- Fellow of the American Heart Association (F.A.H.A.)
- Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology
- American Association of Immunologists (Elected 1991)
- Society for Mucosal Immunology (1992)
