Dr David Vessey is a Lecturer in Modern History at the School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities, University of Sheffield. He earned his BA, MA, and PhD at the same institution and has taught there since 2006.

His research focuses on intersections between media and political engagement in modern Britain, particularly:
- British press representations of the Soviet Union during the Stalin era
- Anti-Bolshevik narratives in interwar and Cold War media
- Edwardian press coverage of suffragette activism
- Evolution of left-wing journalism in early 20th-century Britain
Publications include analyses of:
- Sheffield's political press dynamics
- Transnational reporting from Moscow correspondents
- Periodical press as ideological battleground
- Media framing of political hunger strikes
He contributes to academic discourse as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and supervises PhD research on media history topics.
