David Turner

David Turner is Professor of History at Swansea University's School of Culture and Communication, specializing in social and cultural history with particular expertise in disability studies, gender history, and the social impacts of the Industrial Revolution. His research examines how marginalized groups experience historical narratives, with current projects exploring disabled political activism since the 18th century.

Research interests focus on:

• Historical constructions of physical impairment and disability
• Industrialization's impact on working-class bodies and families
• Intersections of gender, class and disability in medical history
• Public history methodologies for recovering marginalized voices
• Ageing and life course perspectives in historical context

Publication analysis reveals concentrated scholarship on 18th-19th century British disability experiences, with recent work examining:
