David Terence Jonathan Netscher

Dr. David Terence Jonathan Netscher is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. He is also Program Director of the Hand Surgery Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Born in South Africa, he graduated with distinction from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School and completed residencies in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery, followed by a fellowship in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery in the U.S.

His professional interests focus on Hand and Micro Surgery, with extensive experience in reconstructive and orthopedic surgical techniques. He has held leadership roles in organizations such as the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and served on editorial boards, including Deputy Editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery. His research emphasizes congenital deformities, trauma reconstruction, and surgical outcomes in hand and microvascular procedures.

Dr. Netscher’s over 100 publications span topics like pollicization outcomes, carpal tunnel syndrome, and breast implant management. He has contributed to clinical guidelines and scales for upper extremity measurements. His work integrates anatomical studies, surgical innovation, and patient-centered outcomes, particularly in pediatric and reconstructive surgery.

Key affiliations include the American Society of Peripheral Nerve and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He recently became Vice President of the Southern Medical Association.
