David Takacs is an Adjunct Professor at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, holding a J.D. from the same institution. His academic credentials include an LL.M. from the University of London's School of Oriental & African Studies, and B.S. (Biology), M.A., and Ph.D. (Science & Technology Studies) degrees from Cornell University.
His research focuses on international environmental law, carbon offsetting, biodiversity conservation, water rights, and legal frameworks for nonhuman entities. Previously, he served as a professor at CSU Monterey Bay and lecturer at Cornell University. He also worked as a Peace Corps Forestry Volunteer in Senegal.
Takacs received the 2017 Rutter Award for Outstanding Teaching and authored The Idea of Biodiversity (Johns Hopkins University Press). He consults for NGOs and government agencies on climate policy.
