Dr. David Surrey is a Professor of Sociology, Urban Studies & Anthropology at Saint Peter’s University, where he has served for 37 years. He holds administrative roles including Director of Faculty Development and former Chair of the Urban Studies/Sociology Department (2002-2016). His research focuses on structural discrimination, globalization, and participatory action research, collaborating with educators, tenant organizers, and activists globally.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Sociology, New School for Social Research
- B.A. in Sociology, Ohio Wesleyan University
Research Interests: Dr. Surrey’s work bridges local and global issues, including desegregation, urban history, and migration. He emphasizes collaborative research with communities, particularly in Alaska, New Zealand, Palestine/Israel, and Japan. His unifying theme is societal stratification and structural discrimination.
