David Steigerwald is a Professor of History at The Ohio State University, specializing in US History since 1877, Power, Culture, and the State, and Race, Ethnicity, and Nation. He teaches courses spanning Twentieth Century America from WWI through The Sixties, and directs the History Department's World War II Study Abroad program.
His research focuses on

Recent publications include David Riesman on the Frontiers of Consumption (2013) and The Destiny of Choice: New Directions in Consumer History (2013), with earlier works like Culture's Vanities (2004) and Wilsonian Idealism in America (1994) establishing his reputation in American thought analysis.

He is currently finalizing Lost in the Land of Plenty: Affluence and Alienation in Post-War America, 1945-2001, continuing his exploration of how material abundance shaped American cultural contradictions.
