Dr. David Simmons is a Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Psychology & Neuroscience. His research focuses on visual perception, autism spectrum disorders, synaesthesia, and medical imaging applications. He is a member of editorial boards for Perception/i-Perception and Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, and contributed to the Scottish Government's Autism Strategy committees.

Research interests include the link between color and emotion, post-surgical facial scarring, and visual processing in autism. He has supervised postgraduate students including Tammy-Ann Husselman, Leeseul Shim, and Penelope White.
Publications span VR applications in synaesthesia research, sensory questionnaires for autism, and neuroimaging studies of visual motion processing. His work bridges experimental psychology, clinical research, and technological innovation in perception studies.
