David Shope is an Adjunct Professorial Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at American University's College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from University of California, Riverside and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH Department of Bioethics.
His research specializes in bioethics and philosophy of disability with focus on autism, while maintaining interests in agency theory, formal logic, Kierkegaard, and 20th-century French philosophy. Current explorations include care ethics and Confucian ethical systems.
