David Schaeffer

David Schaeffer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine. He serves as Head of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Vancouver General Hospital and co-directs the Pancreas Centre BC while holding the Pancreatic Cancer Research Chair.

• Fellowship: Gastrointestinal Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto

His research focuses on pancreatic and colorectal cancer pathology using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) to improve diagnostics and develop targeted therapies through patient-derived models. Current work explores metabolic heterogeneity in tumor organoids and hyperinsulinemia's role in cancer initiation.

As discipline lead for gastrointestinal pathology at Vancouver General Hospital, Dr. Schaeffer actively trains medical students and residents, integrating advanced molecular techniques into clinical pathology education.
