David Sartorius is Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland, researching race, empire, and mobility in the Caribbean. His book Ever Faithful examines loyalty politics among Cubans of African descent under Spanish rule. Current projects analyze 19th-century Cuban passports to study transnational movement and classification systems.
He co-edits Social Text and participates in transnational history initiatives like the Tepoztlán Institute.
