David Sandilands is a Consultant Lecturer at the University of Maine's School of Forest Resources, affiliated with the Wheatland Geospatial Lab. He coordinates aerial survey flight missions and image processing workflows while providing technical instruction in geospatial and remote sensing applications to students and professionals.

Dave leverages his FAA Airline Transport Pilot and Part 107 sUAS Remote Pilot certifications to bridge aviation expertise with geospatial research. His work supports forest industry professionals, government entities, and environmental projects through training and technology transfer.
The Wheatland Geospatial Lab collaborates on projects involving lidR tools, forest carbon mapping with NASA, and AI-driven seabird surveys using UAV-based imagery. Dave's career spans commercial airline piloting (CommutAir) and flight instruction at Dowling College, where he contributed to flight training standardization.
