Amelia Fox is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University (MSU), part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She is a leader in the university's precision agriculture program, where she develops and teaches UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) curriculum, integrating innovative tools such as virtual reality for hands-on flight training.
Her research focuses on the intersection of technology and human factors in aviation education. Specifically, she investigates how student personality traits influence preferences between fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAVs, collaborating with colleagues at MSU and the University of Texas-Arlington. This work highlights the importance of diverse cognitive and behavioral profiles in pilot training for both civilian and military applications.
Amelia Fox holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from MSU and is a certified FAA remote pilot and instructor through the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Her expertise in GIS and remote sensing originated during graduate studies and was applied during the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill cleanup. She has strong ties to military aviation through her family and service as a VA caregiver, which informs her commitment to training the next generation of pilots.
She has significantly expanded the UAV education program at MSU, introducing risk-free virtual training environments to enhance student learning. Her work underscores the growing role of psychometric evaluation in aviation, advocating for team-based pilot selection that values complementary personalities.
