David Sabatini is the David Ross Boyd Professor and Sun Oil Company Chair at the Gallogly College of Engineering, University of Oklahoma. He has been affiliated with OU since 1989 and serves as Founding Director of the WaTER Center and Associate Director of the Institute for Applied Surfactant Research. His research focuses on sustainable water systems for developing regions, surfactant-based environmental technologies, and contaminant transport remediation, emphasizing interdisciplinary solutions at the nexus of technology, economics, and human behavior.
Education: Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University, M.S.C.E. from Memphis State University, and B.S.C.E. from the University of Illinois.
Research interests include water technologies for emerging regions, groundwater quality management, and wastewater treatment innovations. He explores surfactant applications in environmental remediation and biofuel development. His work integrates technical, economic, and social dimensions to address water security challenges.
Key contributions include books on subsurface transport processes and surfactant-enhanced remediation. His recent articles focus on phosphorus recovery, cold-water detergency, and water access modeling in Ghana. He leads interdisciplinary teams at WaTER Center to advance equitable water solutions for low-income regions.
Labs/Teams: Directs WaTER Center and collaborates with the Institute for Applied Surfactant Research. His research groups address global water challenges through innovation in filtration materials, surfactant formulations, and sustainable infrastructure design.
