Associate Professor David Rousell is a leading academic in regenerative education at RMIT University, specializing in climate justice, regenerative art/design, and education futures. He holds roles in the School of Education and is affiliated with RMIT's Centre for Urban Research (CUR) and Digital Ethnography Research Centre (DERC). He also serves as a Visiting Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University and adjunct Associate Professor at Southern Cross University's SEAE research centre. His work creatively reshapes education to address climate change through transdisciplinary collaborations with children and youth, producing impactful co-designed projects in schools, museums, and municipalities. Key research areas include environmental philosophy, art/architecture/design, childhood studies, and decolonial methodologies.
David's creative outputs include exhibitions like Climate Child Imaginaries (2023) and By the Birrarung (2023), emphasizing youth climate activism and Indigenous kinship. He leads RMIT's 'Climate Change and Sustainable Education Futures' theme and co-edits the Australian Journal of Environmental Education. His 70+ publications span books such as Posthuman Research Playspaces (2023) and peer-reviewed articles in journals like Children's Geographies and Environmental Education Research.
His current supervision focuses on hydro-feminism, eco-somatic performance, and climate-responsive pedagogies. David's work bridges art, science, and education to foster climate resilience through participatory methods and multispecies inquiry.
