معرفی
Professor David Ron is a leading academic at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) and Department of Clinical Biochemistry. He holds the Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellowship and is a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).
- Research focuses on protein folding homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and its role in disease and aging
- Investigates connections between ER stress, protein folding, and metabolic regulation in pancreas, liver, and fat
- Key themes: Protein Folding and Quality Control, Organelle Biology
His work spans molecular mechanisms of ER stress, the unfolded protein response (UPR), and translational applications for therapies in diabetes, neurodegeneration, and cancer. Recent publications emphasize structural biology, CRISPR screening, and AMPylation dynamics in ER protein quality control.
Scientific contributions include:
- Discovery of calreticulin as an ATF6α repressor
- Elucidation of IRE1β-AGR2 regulatory axis in mucin-producing cells
- Identification of FICD mutations in infancy-onset diabetes
Honors include the Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellowship and FRS recognition. His research group includes postgraduate students and staff such as Ranya Behbehani, Ginto George, and Heather Harding.
Collaborations extend to Cambridge colleagues including Professors Alan Warren, Randy Read, and Stefan Marciniak. He is based at Churchill College, a hub for interdisciplinary biomedical research.
