Dr. David Reeping is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Computing Education at the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science. His research focuses on improving engineering education through studies of transfer student experiences, curricular complexity, threshold concepts, and the integration of generative AI in teaching and learning.
As a mixed methodologist, he employs both qualitative approaches and advanced quantitative techniques. His current projects include analyzing how community college students search for transfer information, developing computational models for teamwork feedback, quantifying engineering program complexity through network analysis, and exploring student interactions with generative AI tools.
Dr. Reeping actively mentors undergraduate researchers through courses like ENED 5080 and research co-op programs. His work is supported by multiple NSF grants including 'Studying Undergraduate Curricular Complexity for Engineering Student Success' (SUCCESS) and 'RETTL: Sizing Up Physical Computing to Explore Threshold Concepts in Cyber-Physical Systems'.
Research Areas:
- Transfer student pathways and information asymmetries
- Quantification of curricular complexity
- Generative AI integration in engineering classrooms
- Threshold concepts in electrical/computer engineering
- Eye-tracking studies of information search behavior
