- MLS, University of California at Berkeley
- BA in Music (minor in Physics), Stanford University
Her research centers on knowledge organization, information experience, expert search, and threshold concepts, with a strong emphasis on pedagogical innovation in LIS education. She explores how learners navigate complex information landscapes and how threshold concepts transform understanding in information literacy and search expertise. Her work bridges theory and practice, informing curriculum design and professional development.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a consistent trajectory in threshold concepts, information architecture, and search behavior. They demonstrate a deep engagement with qualitative methodologies, learner discourse, and the evolution of search practices in digital environments. Her scholarship contributes significantly to understanding how professionals and students develop expertise in information management.
Dr. Tucker has received notable recognition for her contributions:
- Outstanding Professor Award (2018)
- Distinguished Scholar Award (2021)
She has advised doctoral students including Lettie Conrad, Kim Morrison, and Nilo Sarraf, supporting research in information experience, critical pedagogy, and cognitive dimensions of information seeking. Her teaching includes core courses such as Human-Centered Design (INFM 204), Information Retrieval System Design (INFO 202), and Online Searching (INFO 244). Prior to her academic career, she held significant professional roles as a Physics Librarian at Stanford, Product Architect at ProQuest, and County Law Librarian, bringing rich practical experience into her scholarship and teaching.
Dr. Tucker has been instrumental in integrating real-world information consulting projects into student learning, including internships focused on taxonomy design.
