Dr. David R. Morrison is a Professor at Trent University, holding dual appointments in the Department of International Development Studies and the Department of Political Studies. He has served in senior administrative roles including Provost and Dean of Arts and Science, Interim Vice-President (Academic), and Acting President of Trent University. His academic background includes a M.A. from the University of Saskatchewan and a D.Phil. in Comparative Politics from the University of Sussex (UK).
His research focuses on Canada's North-South relations, international political economy, and comparative development studies with regional expertise in East/Southeast Asia and Latin America. Key contributions include foundational work on Canadian development assistance policies and a historical analysis of CIDA. He has authored influential books and directed CIDA-funded programs in Mexico and Ecuador.
Morrison has led Trent's study-abroad initiatives and the Trent International Program. He currently serves on multiple boards, including Horizons of Friendship (development NGO) and the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development. His teaching emphasizes development theory, political economy, and Canada's global role.
