David Paulson is an Honorary Professor of Practice at Queen’s University Belfast’s Queen's Business School and currently serves as Executive Dean of the Business School at University College Birmingham. His research focuses on family firms, postwar business history, and SME development, particularly comparing West Midlands SMEs with Germany’s Mittelstand. He previously held roles as Professor of Practice in Leadership and Management at Queen’s and in international management at General Electric and SMEs.
David’s PhD from Cambridge University, published as *Family Firms in Postwar Britain and Germany: Competing Approaches to Business*, emphasizes supportive ecosystems for skills and leadership development. He contributes to regional initiatives through University College Birmingham and serves on the Northern Ireland Productivity Forum and the Business Commission West Midlands.
His roles include enhancing courses for UK and international students and collaborating with regional business communities.
