Professor David Paul Blaazer is a historian specializing in modern Britain and Ireland at the University of New South Wales, Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture. His research spans several interconnected fields including British and Irish history, nationalism, economic history with a focus on monetary systems, and the history of political ideas.
His research interests include:
- Modern British and Irish history

Professor Blaazer's scholarly work demonstrates consistent focus on the intersection of political ideology, national identity, and economic systems. His early research examined non-communist left movements in Britain, particularly through his book "The Popular Front and the Progressive Tradition." More recently, his work has shifted to the history of money in Britain and Ireland, culminating in his 2023 publication "Forging Nations: Currency, Nationality and Power in Britain and Ireland 1603-1931." He is currently researching the rise and fall of Social Democracy in the UK, with particular attention to monetary ideas and financial markets.
His academic qualifications include a BA and PhD from La Trobe University. Professor Blaazer supervises research in several areas including British and Irish History since 1603, History of Money, British Radical and Socialist Movements, and the Northern Ireland Conflict.
