David Owusu-Ansah is a Professor of History at James Madison University and serves as the Executive Director for Access & Educational Outreach. He directs the Summer Program in Ghana and oversees initiatives promoting educational equity. His academic leadership roles include overseeing access and outreach programs.
He holds a Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University. His research focuses on African history, particularly Islam in Africa, Contemporary Ghana, and religious tolerance in West Africa. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary socio-political dynamics.
His publications include seminal works such as Islamic Learning, the State and the Challenges of Education in Ghana (2013) and Islamic Talismanic Tradition in 19th Century Asante (1991). Recent works analyze Ghana’s political trajectory post-independence and the role of Islam in shaping West African governance.
Dr. Owusu-Ansah has served as a Lester Martin Associate at the Harry S. Truman Institute for International Peace and is a sought-after speaker on Islam and African politics. His interdisciplinary approach integrates historical scholarship with community outreach.
