David Onofrychuk is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing and Composition at Alaska Pacific University (APU), where he also serves as the founding director of APU’s MFA in Creative Writing program. He joined APU in 2010 after completing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Alaska Anchorage. His teaching spans fiction and nonfiction workshops for the BA in Creative and Professional Writing, and he co-leads annual travel courses to destinations such as Iceland, Scandinavia, and Japan.
Onofrychuk’s creative work has been published in Stoneboat Journal and Fifth Wednesday Journal, with the latter earning a Pushcart Prize nomination. He is also known for his contributions to Blindman Brewing’s Session Stories series, where his flash fiction appears on beer cans.
His professional interests include narrative craft, travel writing, and innovative approaches to creative pedagogy. Outside academia, he remains engaged with Edmonton Oilers hockey and sumo fantasy leagues.
