David Olsson is an Associate Professor in Political Science at Karlstad University. He is actively involved in research centers such as the Center for Societal Risk Research (CSR) and the Center for Social Science Didactics (CSD). His research focuses on climate change adaptation, resilience building, democratic engagement, and sustainability governance. He leads three EU/Swedish-funded projects: RISE (resilience development), IMP>ACT (climate citizenship education), and INCREDILAB (cross-border climate adaptation via digital tools). Olsson holds a PhD in Political Science from Karlstad University (2018), specializing in governance frameworks for climate adaptation.
Teaching areas include environmental politics, policy analysis, public administration, international relations, and research methods. He has pioneered pedagogical approaches linking sustainability education with active citizenship through professional learning communities for teachers. Collaboration primarily occurs through RiskLab®, a university platform for societal risk knowledge dissemination.
Key research themes include: democratic dimensions of climate adaptation, public procurement as sustainability tool, and educational strategies for fostering action competence. Over 20 peer-reviewed publications address these topics across disciplines like environmental policy, political ecology, and educational methodology.
