Mikael Granberg is a Professor of Political Science at Karlstad University and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Natural Hazards and Disaster Science (CNDS) at Uppsala University. He is also affiliated with La Trobe University’s Climate Change Adaptation Lab in Australia. His research focuses on political processes, societal risk governance, climate change adaptation, and crisis management. He holds a PhD from Örebro University (2004) and became a Professor at Karlstad University in 2016. Current projects include studying 'wicked problems' governance (e.g., climate change and the pandemic) and green transitions in municipalities. He collaborates with public and private sectors, advising on climate policy and governance.
Research interests include climate policy, institutional analysis, democratic governance, and the intersection of politics with environmental challenges. He emphasizes the role of political institutions and ideologies in climate adaptation and mitigation.
