Malin Anniko is a researcher at Karlstad University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Social and Psychological Studies. Previously affiliated with Örebro University (where the School of Law, Psychology and Social Work closed in 2023), her work focuses on adolescent mental health, stress coping mechanisms, and behavioral responses to existential threats like climate change and pandemics. She has published extensively on topics including repetitive negative thinking, cognitive avoidance, and pro-environmental behavior.
Her research often employs longitudinal designs to track stress development in adolescents, highlighting the role of peer-related stressors and worry in mental health outcomes. She contributed to developing the shortened Adolescent Stress Questionnaire (ASQ-S), a validated tool for measuring adolescent stressor domains. Her 2022 international study on meaning-centered coping during the pandemic demonstrates the importance of existential frameworks in psychological resilience.
Her work has been funded by agencies including the Swedish Research Council Formas, VINNOVA, and Forte. She has collaborated with researchers in Sweden, Australia, and internationally, presenting at conferences such as the European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA) and Nordic Sleep Conference.
