David Nicol is an Associate Professor and Associate Director at the Fountain School of Performing Arts, Dalhousie University, specializing in Theatre, Theatre Studies, and Cinema and Media Studies. He earned his BA from Aberystwyth University, MA in Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute (University of Birmingham), and PhD from the University of Central England.

His research focuses on English Renaissance drama, particularly the collaborative works of Thomas Middleton and William Rowley. He authored the 2012 monograph "Middleton and Rowley: Forms of Collaboration in the Jacobean Playhouse" and contributed to the Encyclopedia of English Renaissance Literature (2012). His current projects include a study of 1620s English theatre and a stage history section for the forthcoming New Variorum edition of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
As theatre reviews editor for Early Modern Literary Studies, he invites submissions on early modern theatrical productions. His expertise spans theatre history, film studies, and Renaissance literary analysis, with publications in journals such as Cahiers Elisabethains, Comparative Drama, and Studies in English Literature.
