Dr. Callan Davies (FSA, FRHistS) is a Lecturer in Seventeenth-Century Literature and Culture at the University of Southampton. He works across early modern literary, cultural, and theatre history, with a focus on playhouses, commercial entertainment spaces, and the intersection of social status and creativity in early modern England.

His research explores the history of playhouses, early modern drama and performance, animal sports in early modern England, and archival practices. He has contributed extensively to understanding the cultural significance of spaces like London's Curtain playhouse and Bristol’s Wine Street playhouse.
Recent publications include What is a Playhouse? England at Play, 1520-1620 (2023) and Strangeness in Jacobean Drama (2021). His work has appeared in The Seventeenth Century, Antiquity, and Early Theatre, where he won the MRDS Barbara Palmer Award in 2020.
