David Needle is a Clinical Associate Professor and Senior Veterinary Pathologist at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), affiliated with the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NHVDL) and the Department of Molecular, Cellular, & Biomedical Sciences. He holds a DVM from Tufts University and completed a veterinary anatomic pathology residency at Michigan State University.
His research focuses on One Health principles, encompassing three main areas: emerging disease discovery, wildlife diseases, and comparative microbial genomics. He collaborates regionally and nationally on projects analyzing pathogens in diverse species, including gray foxes, mesocarnivores, and avian populations. His clinical work supports diagnostic services for veterinarians, livestock producers, and wildlife agencies.
Notable publications include studies on viral and bacterial pathogens in wildlife, genomic analyses of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, and investigations into novel adenoviruses. His work bridges diagnostic pathology with ecological and public health implications.
