David Murphy

Dr David Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Geoscience (Earth Materials) at the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, Faculty of Science, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He has been a core academic in the faculty since 2007, contributing to teaching, research, and supervision in geochemistry and petrology. His work spans early Earth processes, igneous petrogenesis, and innovative applications of geochemical data.

He also explores innovative applications in geoscience education, including the use of virtual reality for student learning.

His research spans diverse geological settings—from West Africa to Antarctica—and integrates advanced analytical methods such as U-Pb geochronology, isotopic tracing (Zn, Mg, Pb), and machine learning for image analysis.
