David McGuinness

David McGuinness is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA Real Estate Programme at Northumbria University, where he has held research and teaching roles for 15 years. His academic journey includes positions at the Centre for Regional Economic Development (CRED) and the Sustainable Cities Research Institute (SCRI) before joining the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and serves as an External Examiner at Sheffield Hallam University.

His research focuses on urban governance, strategic planning, urban regeneration, and sustainable urban development. Key themes include housing policy, localism under austerity, land value dynamics, and the integration of practitioner knowledge into planning practices. His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, including an unexpected 2018 study on the genotyping of Huntington's disease.
