Dr. David Marshall is a Researcher at the Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF) within the Faculty of Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). With a PhD from the University of Wollongong completed in 2014, Dr. Marshall joined QUT as a Postdoctoral Fellow and played a key role in establishing the Mass Spectrometry Development Laboratory within CARF. His current role focuses on developing cutting-edge mass spectrometry methods to support QUT researchers and external clients.
Dr. Marshall's research interests span mass spectrometry, ion chemistry and spectroscopy, lipidomics, ozone-induced dissociation, and free radicals. His work primarily falls within the fields of analytical chemistry and physical chemistry, with applications in structure elucidation of synthetic and biological materials such as lipids, polymers, and molecular machinery. He has authored over 20 publications in high-impact journals including Nature Chemistry, Angewandte Chemie, and Analytical Chemistry, which have collectively been cited over 300 times.
His recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on advancing mass spectrometry techniques, particularly in lipid analysis, structural characterization of complex molecules, and applications in environmental and materials science. His work shows consistent collaboration with researchers both locally and internationally, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of modern analytical chemistry research.
Dr. Marshall is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, the Australia and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry, and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.
