David Machavariani is an Adjunct Professor of Music – Cello at Valparaiso University, where he has taught since 2006. He holds a master’s degree from Tbilisi State Conservatory (1989) and a postgraduate diploma (1989), followed by further studies at Indiana University South Bend. His career includes solo performances with prestigious orchestras such as the Georgian National Symphony and the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, as well as chamber music collaborations. He has toured across Europe and the U.S., performing in venues like Rome’s Santa Cecilia and Lisbon’s Gulbenkian Foundation.

Advising & Orchestral Roles: Served as principal cellist in the Elkhart Symphony Orchestra and assistant principal in the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. His pedagogical contributions span decades, shaping emerging musicians across multiple institutions.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Georgian Chamber Orchestra and Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra. Currently affiliated with Valparaiso University’s Music Department.
