David M. DiPasquale is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Department of Political Science at Boston College. He serves as Director of the John Marshall Project and holds leadership roles in the Islamic Civilization and Societies Program, including Associate Director and Director of Graduate Studies. His research focuses on medieval and modern Islamic political thought, the transmission of Greek science to the Muslim world, and the political philosophy of Alfarabi, Avicenna, and Averroes. He also explores the relationship between Islam and the West.

DiPasquale has authored a major work, Alfarabi’s Book of Dialectic (Cambridge University Press, 2019), featuring the first complete English translation of Alfarabi’s seminal text. His research bridges classical Islamic intellectual history with contemporary debates, emphasizing the recovery of Arabic philosophical traditions. Current projects include analyses of Averroes’ political writings and the role of Greek science in medieval Islamic societies.
Teaching focuses on Islamic political philosophy, medieval religious-political thought, and the interplay between Islam and liberal democracy.
