معرفی
Professor David M Wilson III leads the GRAND Team (Genome Repair in Aging and Neurodegenerative Disease) at Hasselt University. His research focuses on delineating genome maintenance mechanisms in neurodegenerative conditions and developing strategies to promote healthy aging. Previously, he held senior positions at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and the National Institute on Aging (NIH).
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Political Science, Bucknell University
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Loyola University – Stritch School of Medicine
- Post-doctoral Training in Molecular Toxicology, Harvard School of Public Health
Research Focus: The GRAND Team investigates biochemical mechanisms of DNA repair systems, particularly oxidative damage resolution. Key aims include defining how repair defects drive degenerative diseases/aging and developing therapies to preserve genome integrity and extend healthspan. Core interests span DNA damage susceptibility, neurodegenerative pathways, and oxidative stress in aging.
Active Funding:
- Alzheimer Research Foundation (SAO-FRA, 2023–2026): Targeting DNA repair mechanisms against Aβ-Tau-induced neuronal loss
- Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO, 2025–2029): Genomic stress resolution in gut disorders involving enteric nervous defects
Professional Service: Current Roles: Reviews Editor for Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences and Frontiers Aging; EMBL Representative. Past: Editorial boards of 6+ journals including Nucleic Acids Research; Executive roles in Environmental Mutagenesis Society; Grant reviewer for NIH/NWO.
Advising & Team Leadership: Leads 2 PhD students, 2 Master's candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in the GRAND Team. Alumni include 16+ PhD/Master's graduates from current and prior institutions (NIA, Lawrence Livermore).
