David Lansing

David Lansing is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography & Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), affiliated with the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Ohio State University (2009). His research focuses on environmental governance, economic geography, political ecology, and agriculture, with a particular emphasis on antibiotic use in animal agriculture, payments for ecosystem services, and stakeholder perspectives in conservation efforts.

Dr. Lansing teaches courses including Introduction to Human Geography, Environmental Policy, and Global Environmental Change. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with applied research, examining how neoliberal policies shape environmental conservation and agricultural practices in regions like Costa Rica and the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

His recent publications highlight themes such as antibiotic responsibility in livestock production, carbon offset projects among indigenous communities, and the interplay between local values and global environmental frameworks.
