Robert Whitescarver is an Adjunct Professor in the departments of ISAT, Geography, and MSISAT at James Madison University's College of Integrated Science & Engineering. He holds a B.S. in Agronomy from Virginia Tech and an M.P.A. from JMU. His work spans watershed restoration, sustainable agriculture, and environmental policy.
Research interests include restoration ecology, soil health, livestock exclusion from streams, Chesapeake Bay restoration, and conservation in South Africa and Central America. He is a co-owner of Whiskey Creek Angus, a regenerative farm, and operates Whitescarver Natural Resources LLC as a watershed restoration consultant.
Award-winning author of Swoope Almanac and environmental blogger, he has been recognized with multiple Virginia Outdoor Writers Association Blog Awards. Whitescarver has served as a District Conservationist with the USDA NRCS for 31 years and currently sits on boards including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Virginia League of Conservation Voters Ed Fund.
Key contributions include promoting riparian buffers, soil health practices, and anti-poaching efforts. His writing appears in The Washington Post, Virginia Mercury, and USA Today, focusing on land-water connections and environmental governance.
