David L. Wilson

David L. Wilson is the Robert J. Herbold Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Radiology at Case Western Reserve University, affiliated with both the Case School of Engineering and the School of Medicine. He is a member of the Cancer Imaging Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on biomedical image analysis, particularly in disease quantification and visualization using tools like image registration, segmentation, and machine learning. He developed the cryo-imaging system and 3D-MUSE technology for high-resolution anatomical and molecular imaging of tissues. His clinical work includes cardiovascular image analysis of OCT and CT. He has over 185 peer-reviewed publications, numerous grants, and founded BioInVision, Inc., commercializing cryo-imaging technologies.

Education: PhD in Electrical Engineering from Rice University (1990), MS in Biomedical Engineering from Penn State University, and BS in Physics from West Virginia University.

Research interests include image-guided therapies, stem cell tracking, and cardiovascular imaging. His lab employs advanced computing and collaborates with the Case Center for Imaging Research. He serves on editorial boards, NIH study sections, and conference committees.

Awards include being elected a Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors (2024). He has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate students, emphasizing interdisciplinary training through the NIH T32 grant in Biomedical Imaging.

Labs/Teams: Leads the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory (BMIL), focusing on cryo-imaging, OCT analysis, and AI-driven cardiovascular risk prediction. Collaborates on projects involving stem cell biodistribution and histopathology.
