Kenneth Laurita

Kenneth Laurita is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University's Metrohealth Campus. His work bridges medicine and engineering through advanced cardiac imaging and therapeutic innovation.

• Education: BS, MS, PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University

Dr. Laurita specializes in understanding arrhythmias by developing fluorescent imaging methods to study whole-heart cellular function. His research has revealed novel mechanisms and therapies for abnormal heart rhythms.

His interdisciplinary expertise also extends to affinity-based drug delivery systems for device infection prevention, HIV, orthopedics, cardiovascular diseases, ophthalmology, and cancer. Additionally, he works on directed stem cell differentiation for tissue engineering applications including endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes, motor neurons, and T-cells.

With continuous NIH funding since 2001 and grants from the American Heart Association and Whitaker Foundation, Dr. Laurita has authored over 80 publications. He has mentored 30+ pre and post-doctoral students and serves on editorial boards of leading journals including American Journal of Physiology and Heart Rhythm. His scientific contributions include permanent NIH study section membership and extensive grant review service.
