Dr. Kotter's research centers on the integration of theology and economics, exploring biblical perspectives on wealth, poverty, work, vocation, and capitalism. He examines how economic systems intersect with Christian ethics and ecclesial mission, particularly through the lens of New Testament teachings. His work engages both ancient texts and contemporary societal challenges, such as universal basic income, crony capitalism, and urban gentrification.
His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on moral and theological dimensions of economic life, drawing from disciplines including biblical studies, ethics, philosophy, and public policy. Themes such as self-interest versus greed, the dignity of labor, and the church's role in societal transformation recur across his writings. He frequently contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues, presenting at theological and economic forums across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
Dr. Kotter has received notable recognitions including the Kern Fellow at Acton University, the Kemper Fellowship for Management Studies, and the Edmund James Scholar in Engineering. These awards reflect his dual expertise in engineering, business, and theological scholarship.
