David Knight is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science at Christopher Newport University (CNU). He holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Florida State University, an MS in Nutrition Science, and a BS in Biological Science from CNU. His teaching focuses on Human Anatomy & Physiology, Genetics, Exercise Physiology, and Neurodegenerative Disease.
Research interests include Energy Homeostasis, Cardiovascular Function, Autonomic Nervous System regulation, and Neurodegenerative mechanisms. He directs research projects involving stress effects on neurotransmitter receptors and copper-induced neurodegeneration in zebrafish models.
Grants include studies on dopamine/serotonin receptors in stressed rats (CNU-funded) and copper's impact on Alzheimer’s markers in zebrafish. His work has been presented at the Virginia Academy of Science and Society for Neuroscience conferences. He advises undergraduate research teams and prioritizes aligning his academic goals with CNU's mission to enhance student success.
