Dr. David Kenley is a Remote Professor and Coordinator of the General Education Department at Dakota State University's College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Hawaii, an M.A. from the University of Utah, and a B.A. in Asian Studies from Brigham Young University.
His research focuses on Modern and Contemporary China, U.S.-China cyber competition, and Public Memory. He has published four books, including New Culture in a New World: The May Fourth Movement and the Chinese Diaspora, and numerous peer-reviewed articles. His teaching interests span Research Methods, Asian History, and U.S. History.
Kenley has secured over $1.5 million in grants, including the Freeman Foundation Grant ($1M), Mellon Grants ($220K), and Title VI grants. These supported initiatives like digital humanities labs, international NGO programs, and K-12 educator training in Asia.
His honors include the Faculty Merit Award for Teaching (2008) and College of Liberal Arts Teacher of the Year (2003). He has delivered keynotes globally, addressing topics like Sino-U.S. cyber dynamics, diaspora communities, and historical memory.
Kenley is fluent in Chinese and advocates for diversity and international education. He advises on cyber leadership and has pioneered online course development, including a 20-school consortium for humanities education.
His work bridges historical scholarship and modern challenges, with recent talks on China's 'China Dream,' post-pandemic Asia education, and transnational public memory projects.
