Dr. David Kelvin is a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on infectious diseases, their global impact, and their connections to cancer development. He leads an internationally based research program with collaborations in Shantou, China; Sardinia, Italy; and Canada.

He has published in high-impact journals such as Nature, Science, and the New England Journal of Medicine, and co-founded the open-access Journal of Infection in Developing Countries (JIDC) to address infectious disease challenges in resource-limited regions. His work examines immune evasion mechanisms in pathogens, treatments for severe pneumonia caused by influenza strains like H5N1 and H7N9, and the role of sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HPV) in prostate cancer tumorigenesis. He actively collaborates across institutions and countries to study zoonotic disease transmission and historical disease epidemics through analyses of burial sites and ancient DNA.
