David Karmon is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Visual Arts at the College of the Holy Cross. His research focuses on early modern art, architecture, and urbanism, with a particular emphasis on Italian Renaissance and preservation practices in Rome. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Karmon has authored seminal works such as *Architecture and the Senses in the Italian Renaissance* (2021) and *The Ruin of the Eternal City* (2011).
He has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Mellon Rome Prize, Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Studies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. As Chief Editor of the *Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians* (2021–2023), he has shaped global discourse on architectural history. His current project explores Renaissance architecture and natural history.
Teaching includes courses like *History of Global Architecture I/II*, *Destruction and Renewal*, and *Art & Antiquity in 16th-Century Italy*. Karmon’s work bridges scholarship and practice, addressing themes of sensory experience, urbanism, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
