معرفی
David Kaplan is Professor of Geography at Kent State University, serving as editor-in-chief of the Geographical Review and editor of National Identities. His research examines ethnic identity manifestations in urban and national contexts.
Education:
- Ph.D. Geography, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1991)
- M.S. Geography, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1986)
- B.A. Humanities, Johns Hopkins University (1982)
His research spans urban segregation patterns globally, nationalism studies, and sustainable urban development. Current projects investigate ethnic placemaking, borderland dynamics, and transportation sustainability, with fieldwork frequently conducted in Paris neighborhoods.
Recent publications reflect three interconnected trajectories: 1) Geographic analyses of COVID-19 impacts and policy responses; 2) Critical examinations of ethnonationalism in contemporary politics; and 3) Urban sustainability transitions in higher education contexts. Methodologically, this work combines spatial analysis with qualitative approaches to identity formation.
As AAG President (2019-2020), Kaplan led organizational responses to pandemic disruptions while advocating for geography's public relevance.
