David Håkansson is a Professor of the Swedish language at Uppsala University's Department of Nordic Languages. His research focuses on linguistic variation and change from both contemporary and historical perspectives, with a particular emphasis on Swedish syntax and Nordic linguistics.

Research interests include:
- Diachronic syntax of Scandinavian languages
- Clause order evolution in Swedish history
- Expletive constructions and negation structures
- Stylistic analysis of literary Swedish
- Language policy and academic discourse
