David Hornik is a Lecturer in Management at Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) since 2017 and concurrently teaches at Harvard Law School since 2007. He holds a JD from Harvard Law School (1994), an M.Phil in Criminology from Cambridge University (1991), and an AB in Computer Music from Stanford University (1990). His academic work focuses on technology's intersection with law, music, and crime prevention.
Professionally, he is a General Partner at August Capital, investing in IT startups since 2000. He previously practiced corporate law at major firms like Cravath Swaine & Moore, advising tech startups such as Yahoo! and Ofoto. His board roles include Second Spectrum, Fastly, Splunk, GLAAD, and TED Conferences (2014–2016). He authors the VentureBlog, a prominent VC-focused blog, and organizes The Lobby Conference.
His teaching includes Stanford's 'Startup Garage' series, guiding students through startup design and launch phases. He actively speaks on tech entrepreneurship and venture capital trends.
