Bob Lisbonne is a Lecturer in Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB), affiliated with the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. He has been teaching since 2015, focusing on startup design, testing, and launch through courses like 'Startup Garage.' Lisbonne holds an MBA from Stanford GSB (1991) and a BA and MA from Stanford University (1986), with additional graduate studies in Computer Science.
His research interests emphasize entrepreneurship, venture capital dynamics, and technology strategy, informed by decades of industry experience. Lisbonne has led high-profile roles, including CEO of Luminate, where he scaled image views to 30 billion annually, and as SVP and division GM at Netscape, where he managed browser engineering and launched Mozilla—the organization he has served on the board of since 2006. As a General Partner at Matrix Partners, he invested in startups, many of which later IPO'd or were acquired by major firms like Cisco, HP, IBM, and Yahoo.
Lisette’s professional journey includes board roles at PostPath (acquired by Cisco) and Netscape-derived ventures, alongside early career positions at Collabra Software, Apple, and Goldman Sachs. His teaching and advising focus on bridging academic theory with practical startup challenges, leveraging his hands-on experience in product management and technology leadership.
