David Herzog is a Professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri, where he serves as Director of Data & Research Services and academic adviser to the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR) under Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE). He plays a key role in guiding data journalism initiatives and professional training programs, including the Dow Jones News Fund residency.
Herzog specializes in data journalism, investigative reporting, and access to public information. His work emphasizes the use of data analysis tools in storytelling and journalism education. He has contributed significantly to the development of data journalism curricula both nationally and internationally, particularly through the Missouri Method.
He was awarded the 2020 Provost's Award for Leadership in International Education for his global outreach, having trained journalists and faculty from over ten countries. He advised the launch of the first university-based data journalism lab in China at Wuhan University.
